Delete your cotty account

cotty is an SSH terminal for your machines and servers, published by Spectamatrix Solutions. You can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time. Here is how, and exactly what happens when you do.

How to delete your account

Either route deletes the same thing. Pick whichever is to hand.

From the app

  • Open cotty on Android, or the web app at console.cotty.sh.
  • Go to the Account tab (on desktop and web, Settings → Account).
  • Choose Delete account.
  • We email you a confirmation link, to be sure it is really you. Open it and confirm.

From the web, without signing in

Prefer to ask a human? Email support@cotty.sh from the address on the account and we will action it for you.

What gets deleted

Confirming deletion removes, permanently:

  • Your account — name, email address, profile picture and password.
  • Your sign-in methods, including the OAuth tokens held for Google sign-in, and every active session on every device.
  • Every server you added, and the SSH passwords and private keys stored for them.
  • Your terminal sessions and their metadata, your workspace layout, and your saved settings.
  • The credential access audit log for your account, including the IP addresses and user-agent strings recorded in it.
  • Your access to any server another person had shared with you, and your identifier removed from their share lists.

Any terminal that is still connected is disconnected as part of the deletion.

What is kept, and for how long

Nothing is retained after deletion for our own purposes — the account and the records above are destroyed, not archived. We may keep records for longer only where the law requires it, and only for as long as it requires.

We do not touch your own servers. Deleting a cotty account is not an instruction to change your machines. Anything cotty started on them — for example a detached terminal session — keeps running, and files you transferred stay where they are. If you want those gone, remove them on the server yourself. You should also rotate any SSH key or password you had entrusted to cotty.

Deleting some data without closing your account

You do not have to delete the whole account to remove data. Deleting a server in the app removes that server and erases its stored credential immediately; deleting a terminal ends that session and removes its record. See Retention and deletion in the Privacy Policy for the detail.

How long it takes

Deletion happens as soon as you confirm the emailed link. The confirmation link is valid for 24 hours; if it expires, start again from either route above.
